Okinawa Day Trips
64Enjoying Okinawa
I spent a gorgeous 10 days in Okinawa, enjoying my summer break.
We decided to stay on the main land and spent most of our time going around to all the different beaches Okinawa had to offer,(Ikei to Okuma, Torii to Zanpa), to name a couple, with the exception of one day when we took a boat to one of the many islands surrounding Okinawa.( Le lsland, Aguni Island, Izena Island) are just a few of them.
What I found remarkably interesting about Okinawa was the people and the food.
Since living in Tokyo for some time I had become accustomed to a certain type of behaviour from Japanese people, and had a little bit of a grasp on the language. But when I stepped onto Okinawan territory I was soon to realize that they use a different dialect and different slang! It was a rather funny experience communicating with everyone.
What I loved though was how friendly the people are, so relaxed and happy to talk!
The night life is fun and there is a buzz around town as you walk up and down the main tourist strip, trying to decided whether to go to an “ American” restaurant or an Izakaya for dinner! There are lots of live bands and Karaoke to keep you entertained after a relaxing day soaking up the tropical sun rays!
Handy Beach Equipment
The sun is really hot!! It doesn't take long to brown up.....I would recommend a beach tent, as a place to escape once you have had enough of the islands sun!
Beach chairs are a really good idea, we hired them each day, as we just loved the comfort of laying back, relaxing and staying off the hot sand!!
Each Beach will charge you a different price, some have deals so you can get an umbrella as well! If you can, take your own and save yourself some money!!
More to See and Do
Okinawa is a japanese Island full of history. There are many places to visit to remember all that took place, or you can just enjoy what Okinawa is today.
There is a wonderful aquarium, heaps of shopping and yes of course lots of beachs and pools to enjoy.
So if you don't have time or just want to relax, then try catching up on some history by reading one of the books listed below while you are sunbaking in Japan's glorious sun!
