What to do

We chose a hot summers day to go and check out an area close enough to Tokyo to go for a swim in the ocean.

It took us about an hour to get to Kamakura from Tokyo, sitting in an air conditioned train, so it was a pleasant trip!

When we arrived we headed straight for the beach, which is within walking distance of  the station.

This beach is very commercialised, which was strange for us, as we are from apart of Australia that is full of beaches that have nothing more than a kiosk and life savers

So we hired some beach chairs and a locker, which also entitled us to use the showers and hair drying facilities afterwards! No travelling on the trains with sandy feet and wet swimmers!

There are bands and cafes/bars along the beach, which keep you entertained if you want a break from the sun.

When we had finished relaxing on the beach we decided to go and check out what other things Kamakura had to offer.

We headed to the Big Buddha! on the way we passed lots of cute shops selling all sorts of quirky and traditional gifts.

The Big Buddha is surrounded by a temple that attracts many visitors, and has a lot of history to it. There are also lots of walking tracks nearby that take you up into some beautiful mountain areas.

As we headed back towards the station we noticed that there were bikes for hire.....great idea, especially since there is so much to do and see.

We continued on and found a long traditionally layed out street lined with shops, there was lots of traditional foods and clothing, we bought some yummy apple honey that you could turn into a drink! so good!!

Kamakura is a great place to spend a day, any time of year, depending on what you want to get out of it!
